What has been one strategy that has helped you effectively memorize scripture?

I'm trying to get in the habit of memorizing scripture and would like to hear what has worked best for you.

Stephen,

It's seems a bit complicated at first, but I found something on the internet a number of years ago and it has worked for me. If you want to, for example, memorize a chapter, start with verse 1 on Monday. Say the verse 30 times on Monday, 25x Tues, 20x Wed, 15x Thur, 10x Fri, 5x Sat, 1x Sun, then 1x a day for 2 weeks, then 1x a week for 4 weeks, then 1x a month thereafter. You could then start verse 2 on Tues and do the same thing. It only takes 5-10 minutes a day when you get the hang of it. I used to have a 20 min commute to work and I could review all of the verses I was working on memorizing throughout the year. I would carry a index card pre-printed with the day I started the verse, so I knew mentally how many times I had to say each verse.

I was able to memorize the book of Hebrews a number of years ago. Of course, seminary the last three years scrambled my brain pretty good, but I've been trying to continue memorizing Scripture now that I graduated.

Hope this helps brother,

Ryan
